The congregation of the First United Methodist Church of San Diego follows in the great tradition of Christians to minister to each other from birth to death.
It is fitting that a portion of the church grounds be dedicated as a memorial site with a columbarium, a memorial wall and a place for prayer and meditation.
The Memorial Garden is located immediately beyond the “Mount of Olives” – the landscaped hill behind the altar window. The landscaping of the Memorial Garden creates a pleasant, restful and quiet area to meditate and reflect.
The Columbarium
The columbarium consists of ten wall sections along the south and west perimeter of the Memorial Garden. There are a total of 1,080 niches and each niche can hold two urns of an appropriate size. The granite face of each niche will be engraved with one or two individual’s name(s) and dates of birth and death.
Wall Plaques
The inner wall of the garden is designated the Memorial Wall for granite name plaques for honoring or remembering loved ones.
